What's the deal with the goat?

Once there was a goat herder named Kaldi who lived in Eastern Africa, or Ethiopia as it is known by us today. Kaldi, a sober man, dedicated his life to caring for his usually sober goats. One evening, Kaldi observed his goats acting unusually frisky after eating red berries from a bush. Curious and possibly jealous of his herd’s happy nature, Kaldi tried eating the berries himself. He found that the tasty fruits gave him renewed energy. Kaldi decided that he must take some of these berries home to his wife.

As the story goes, Kaldi had to smack his goats to get them moving because they would not stop eating the rosy fruits.

After trying some of the berries herself, his wife Sharon decided that the fruits
must be a gift from God. “Tomorrow I must gather more of these miracle berries
and take them to the monastery”, she told Kaldi. The next day she took the
berries to the local monastery where it is written that the monks were inspired and moved after tasting the rosy berries. They soaked the berries in water, ate the fruit, and drank the liquid to provide stimulation for a more awakened time for prayer and devotionals.
